Motorcycle Training

Theory/Hazard Perception Test

Prior to any full test being taken on a motorcycle, any person must pass a Theory and Hazard Perception Test. Training on how to answer questions and how to judge a potential hazard can be given at Buds Motorcycle Academy at no extra charge.

Compuslory Basic Training

This is not a test but enables a person to go on the road on a scooter or motorcycle up to 125cc on their own whilst displaying L plates. The CBT certificate is issued for a period of two years. The training usually takes up to a full day but can be taken over two days where necessary to ensure your confident with your handling on the road. It is made up of five elements including “classroom” work (no written tests!), yard work at our location and then a road ride.

Please advise anyone you know hoping to do a CBT to have a good knowledge of the Highway code prior to the day as this will assist a great deal when out on the road ride. Your DVLA photo card licence needs to presented on day of CBT with the appropriate provisional category to ride two wheels depending on age.

Am I covered by Insurance without a CBT?

In our experience some Insurance Companies will insure your motorcycle/scooter without asking for your CBT certificate number until it is too late! You must have a CBT certificate to validate your Insurance.

This is the first part of a full test, it cannot be taken until the Theory/Hazard perception test has been passed. It involves arriving at a test centre and then carrying out required controlled moves in the test centre yard in the presence of a DSA examiner. It takes approximately fifteen minutes. Our yard is set up to practice most of the required moves of the MOD 1 test but we also provide motorcycle training in the test centre yard at Darlington including practice at the speed trap for the emergency stop and hazard avoidance prior to test, depending on booking dates.

This is the second part of the full Motorcycle test carried out on the road. It usually last about thirty five minutes. At Buds Motorcycle Academy lessons will cover all the areas required to manoevure on the road correctly and covers all the aspects the examiner will  looking for when carrying out a test. Tests are carried out in Darlington and as we are located in Bishop Auckland we are in ideal location for people to travel from areas such as Barnard Castle, Weardale, Crook, Durham, Ferryhill, Newton Aycliffe and Hartlepool

Any full test taken requires the above criteria to be passed in order to complete. Depending on your age, depends which motorcycle cc you will be allowed to ride upon completion.
